SWEAT. DANCE. CRUISE.

CHERRY BOMB is a hot, flirty dance-your-ass-off club party for queer women and friends, exploding the second-to-last Saturday monthly at Andy Poolhall (with occasional spontaneous combustions at other venues throughout the year).

Toronto has long been a focal point for an incredibly diverse queer party scene. This progressive city that witnessed Canada's first legal gay marriage is also known for hosting some of the most amazing queer events in the country.

At the height of this vibrant and eclectic club scene is CHERRY BOMB. Named after a song by ‘70s all-girl rock group The Runaways, CHERRY BOMB is Toronto's hottest and best-loved queer women's party (as voted in Xtra! Magazine’s 2007 and 2008 reader’s polls). The super popular event has a rep of being such a fun, sexy, sweaty dance party – filled with up-for-it, music-loving queers - that the dancefloor is packed from open to close.

While CHERRY BOMB is at its heart a queer women's event, it has an open door policy to gay men, trans folks and all of our queer-positive friends who want to be where the action is. Adored by its loyal fans and followers, who refer to attending the event as ‘Bombin' tonight,’ CHERRY BOMB's rep has spread to spawn tours, tees, hats and a double mixed CD.

CHERRY BOMB co-founders, Denise Benson and Cozmic Cat, are two multi award winning DJs with years of experience rocking dance floors in Canada, the USA, Australia and Puerto Rico. Their combined musical tastes and expertise make Coz and DB a dynamic DJ duo many agree to be the best in the city. Both have the ability to ignite ANY crowd with a tightly mixed, booty-shaking blend of house, electro, hip-hop, soul, rock, reggae and where ever the mood and the crowd take them. Their fresh mix keeps more than 500 party people bumpin’ and jumpin’ each month.

Join us at a coming event!

The second last Saturday of the month @ Andy Poolhall.

Dub & Beyond

launch mp3 player (requires flash)

Once a month at Andy Poolhall , the Version Xcursion 's Sassa'le and Aram Scaram throw a party called Dub And Beyond, which, as you might expect, focuses on the sounds of dub and dub-influenced music. Dub has had a strong influence on the development of DJ culture; it was the first real example of remixing tunes and abusing the studio specifically to make a single more friendly for DJs. As such, elements of this sound have filtered into a wide variety of styles outside of the reggae canon, which allows a dub-focused night to be much more eclectic than you'd think at first (Benjamin Boles, Now Magazine).

Dub & Beyond was established in January, 2004 by Version Xcursion's Aram Scaram. In December of that year he brought in his partner Sassa'le and they began doing their radio show live-to-air from the club. In the summer of 2005 they introduced the 'Unplugged & Homegrown' series which features local artist with a performance and interview live-to-air on CKLN 88.1 FM. Combining the radio show and performance with the club night has made Dub & Beyond a truly unique musical experience.

Fast forward to today and Dub & Beyond has become one of the hottest monthly parties in T.O. and the number one source for the 'nu-dub' sounds. Past International Guests DJ's include Rob Smith (Bristol UK), J. Boogie (Sanfrancisco, US), JStar (London UK) and Big Toe's Hi-Fi (Edinburgh, Scotland).

Past 'Unplugged & Homegrown' guests include; Treson, Chris Bottomley, Odel Johnson, Humble, Love Is Real, Dubmatix, Tanya Mullings, Undadoggs, Irie band, Sunshine State, J Fly, Mela One, Jah B, Prince Blanco, Kultcha Ites, Chatta, Ammoye, Josiah, Lal, Brian MacMillian, Grand Analog, Korexion and Peoples Republic.

January Fascination

launch mp3 player (requires flash)

fascination toronto

Fascination is the party that has been rocking Toronto for over 7 years. It began as a showcase for the emerging sounds of electro(clash), nouveau wave, proto-house and modern disco when Toronto was experiencing a lull between periods of deep garage house dominance and new jazz/dance rule. Fascination was an instant success as the clubbers in Toronto thirsted for new sounds. After a super successful six month stint at Una Mas, Fascination moved to it's current home at Andy Pool Hall on College St. in the heart of Little Italy. The stunning, kitchy venue was perfect for the Fascination sound and crowd and has been going strong with new Fascination regulars and seasoned coming out and soaking up the sounds every month without fail.

Fascination residents, Mike Tull and Andrew Allsgood are veteran Toronto Dj's with 35 years of Dj experience between them. Tull's been rocking the wheels of steel since he was 14 and has been at the vanguard of the Toronto club scene since the early 90's. Mike has another killer residency, the soul, funk, reggae, disco and classic house monthly, Bump & Hustle, alonside legendary Dj Paul E. Lopes. Tull can rock ANY style of music with aplomb and it shows every month at Fascination. Dubstep, electro, b-more beats & pop remixes sit comfortable alongside reggae, funk, disco, house and techno all mixed to perfection.

Andrew Allsgood has been Djing since '96 and has honed his skills at numerous warehouse parties, club events and residencies across the city.He really gained attention for rocking parties during his 4 years as a weekly Friday resident at Synchro Fridays alongside Denise Benson. Disco, funk, soul, house, electro, techno, retro and party rockin' beats were a weekly  feast for Andy Pool Hall's regulars who still frequent the bar long after Andrew retired from Fridays to focus on music production. Andrew's recent venture into producing music has also earned him a rep as an up and coming music maker who is constantly ahead of the curve. Together as the T'nA Sounsystem, Tull & Allsgood have the musical ammunition and the crowds eat it up!

If you've yet to check the party. then make it out to one of Toronto's best kept secrets, Fascination!

Every last Saturday of the month.

Big City Nights - Saturday Night on College Street

launch mp3 player (requires flash)

Awesome club night
Smoke rises from her cigarette as the night draws near. All around are harlots and hustlers looking for a place to turn a trick. In the distance, bright city lights burn the sky as music spills into the streets and intoxicates the air. The location of interest: Andy Poolhall

BIG CITY NIGHTS

With residents: MEDLEY + TAY'MORE (Dance Like You Fuck, The Toronto Dee Jays)

Medley is one of Toronto's most prominent deejays, he's headlined all of Toronto's biggest and busiest clubs, including: Circa, Andy Pooolhall, Wrongbar, Tattoo Rock Parlour, The Social, Rockwood, Loby, Revival, Mod Club, and many many more. One of his most notable successes started in 2008 when Medley and the notorious promoters "The Jons" built one of Toronto's busiest electro based weekly parties: "Dance Like You Fuck" Thursdays at Strange Love. Steadily over capacity every week for over a year and a half. His arsenal of original remixes and edits coupled with his unmatchable mixing skills, there's no wonder why he's booked so heavily. He's played alongside the biggest names in music, so many I can't start to list. He is the king of College Street. Internationally known, locally respected.

Tay'more is a beautiful, sexy young dj who's been on the rise, cranking out some incredible mixtapes over the last year. She has a passionate lust for classic house music and keeps on top of all the new dance floor smashers. A true super human music head. Teamed up with her boyfriend Matt Medley, this is a duo that is unstoppable.

March 13th Special Guest Dj: DJ F.U.N.K. (www.myspace.com/moustachemendjs)

Photography of sexy people: MATT VARDY (www.party4l.com)

Matt Vardy is an absolutely amazing photographer, he has shot bands and DJs such as Illscarlet, USS, The Midway State, Breathe Carolina, Poison the Well, Stereos, Mobile, MSTRKRFT and many more. Check his website to see some of his outstanding photography, he's gonna make you all look incredibly beautiful so be sure to wear your best outfit.

BACKGROUND - ABOUT UKULA:

The UKULA concept was first brought together in Edinburgh, Scotland. We were DJs. We actually started as consultants for music, concerts and events. However, since the beginning we set out to start a unique but fantastic company. Now we're DJs who do lots of other things. The idea was to explore things that were fashionable and fashion does not pertain to just clothing; music and all things music have always been at the forefront of fashion. We've been DJ'n and throwing parties from the get-go. Fashion can be a piece of furniture or what's surrounding and inspiring you, in my opinion. So we built this brand to work on things that interests us—any facet of what we think is fashionable, using music and special unique events as our catalyst. We also wanted to approach design more holistically, hitting all fronts rather than concentrating on being known for one thing. Since then we've been able to get involved with photography, film, architecture, design and music as a lifestyle in general. So, it has spiralled forward from DJ'n in the beginning that we were able to start our own projects.

THE MAGAZINE:

UKULA Magazine. A unique free, quarterly publication. Features, interviews & insights on new music, film, fashion, art, travel, and literature. Found at bars, concert venues, boutiques, video stores, and restaurants in Toronto, Montreal, NYC, Edinburgh & London.

CONCEPT STORE:

UKULA Concept Store. Was a 3-year fixture at 492 College Street in downtown Toronto. Featured fashion, music, reading, a cafe, & hosted special events. The Globe & Mail perhaps put it best when they stated, "Ukula [Concept Store] is the new ground zero for all things impossibly cool."
